I am relocating to a new place soon. So the house things are being scrutinized and segregated into "WANT" and "DO NOT WANT" categories. WANTS have to be cleaned and packed and DO NOT WANTS have to suitably disposed off. In the latter category falls one bi-cycle and a tri-cycle, belonging to my elder son. Not that both these cycles are old and dilapidated. Infact they are pretty new. The reason they are not going is that, we wanted it to go to some poor child who could not afford them. "We could always buy another one there", said my wife. I did not give a second thought to the suggestion. It was an unaminous decision.
We thought about many ways of donating those cycles. Being my child's first major possessions, we were determined that it should not be neglected. We wanted it to go to children who would value it. Ultimately we decided it to gift it to the school, where my son studied. The school runs a home for poor, needy and orphan kids. Some of them were my son's classmates.
So, yesterday I reached the school wih those cycles. I called on the sister in charge of the home. I told her about it and she agreed to accept it for the kids. There was gratitude in her eyes. She eyed those two cylces intensely, maybe visualizing the little children playing with them. She thanked me profusely and even prayed for me and my family. She held my hands and blessed me.
When I turned back I was a changed man. I haven't felt this happy before, by giving away something in my life. I can envision the glee in those kid's faces, when they ride those cycles. And that is giving me the ultimate joy. I learnt, its just as important to decide, "WHOM TO GIVE" as it is important to decide "TO GIVE".
